I was asked on Sunday to do the chair at an NA meeting tomorrow. The pitch was come along and talk about anything you want an offer you don’t want to make to an Alcoholic/Addict as they may very well take you up on it. I could begin with a lesson on Irish History leading on to the fortunes of Arsenal and Celtic, with the second hour devoted to the demise of Socialism and finishing off around midnight with a small selection of my finest hours told in amazing and painfully protracted detail.
If you haven’t guessed already what I write here masks a tremendous amount of Emotional Pain which is only now abating and allowing me to see the Wonder that is life. So if I’m to talk about the journey from very recent total despair and isolation with the phrase “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” echoing in my head to todays dare I say Optimistic outlook on life then it should be a short speech. Guess I’ll fumble around for about 20 min’s looking for the right words but ultimately borrowing wisdom I picked up in the Fellowships and by the end have given the group a sparse explanation of the unexplainable. Maybe I should just sing “Hang on in There Baby”!
