No Surrender!

Determined to keep blogging for the moment but i can see that there is a lot of change going on. The Man is definitely in the driving seat at the moment and the uploading sites are bottling it and removing millions of links. Hopefully i have enough bootlegs and out of copyright music to keep going indefinitely. So it will be interesting to see where we go from here I'm sure someone will come up with a way to beat the system very soon and i will be looking forward to that new dawn.

On a totally unrelated matter i got paid on the 21st of december which they do because of christmas this means i just did 41 days between pay days. Anyway todays the day i just got paid and already been out for a meal with mymate Sean and i'm picking up a new computer this afternoon so there should be bugger all left by the end of the week!

Crosby and Nash after falling out with Stills and Young went on the road as a duo without a backing band and introduced the world to what we would now call Unplugged. It's got stripped down versions of CSNY classics and is quite excellent!

Heads Down No Nonsense Mindless Boogie!

Getting into full recovery mode and not before time. Have a bit of a pray up in the morning and get out their and be of service. Picked up a new comer guy yesterday totally off his nut but i began what will probably be a lengthy process of breaking down his denial. He thanked me for my time i assured him i got as much from the encounter as he did. keep hitting the meetings [AA and NA] no matter how toxic i find some of the people as it's me that's out of sync not them. Getting back into the habit of apologising for my behaviour if I'm out of order but getting a lot less out of order at the moment as I'm very mindful of my condition. Also supplement everything by linking in to a bit of mindful meditation throughout the day if i feel pressure or just to get in touch with my core. This is not as hard as it sounds i just mainly start to take heed and concentrate on my breathing that clears away the cobwebs and clutter and i always get very quickly a feeling of well being. I can do this on the march and usually do sometimes with the addition of a guided meditation CD!

nick drake - second grace [alternative and unreleased versions] [256]

Insomnia and Depression dogged this mans very short life and may have contributed a great deal to the overdose which killed him. He left behind 3 full length albums now considered classics and this can sit along side them it's a fine example of his talent!

Unable to find the track listing for this album. i may be getting paranoid but i feel like parts of the Internet are no longer working as before. This is early 80's recorded from the soundboard so very high quality bootleg!

Long Ball To No One!

Got a lot of free time at the moment and will have to spend it better than i was doing last night. At one point i was watching a man who looked like a crook trying to sell me a steam cleaner on one of those TV paid ads that come on at 2 in the morning. No danger of me buying one though as i’m a bit strange with adverts, if i see one i don’t like i make a mental note to never buy the product. Mind you i don’t buy a lot of stuff what with all the on line plundering i do. Here’s a bit of a dilemma for you to ponder; is it OK to download spiritual and self help cd’s without paying for them as i have been doing that and benefiting a great deal from some of the information. Mind you a lot of them are definitely charlatans [not the indie band] especially don’t like the over the top bull shit of people like Anthony Robbins. What i do really like is a set of cd’s by Jon Kabat Zinn called Full Catastrophe Living they are excellent. On one of these cd’s Mr Zinn talks of Ethical Living what he called obeying that which cannot be enforced.  I’m not sure if he throw this in to protect his product from pirates like me, but it had an effect as i can see that Spiritual Living is gonna be nipped in the bud by basic Dishonesty, Fear and Greed [that’s 3 of my character defects]. I think I’ll meditate on it and hope that an answer comes down the pipe that says pay for the spiritual stuff and you can still borrow [sic] the rest...somehow i doubt that will be the answer so this could be the beginning of the end for my freeloading!

eurythmics - 1984 [for the love of big brother] [192]

Soundtrack album released in 1984 to accompany the movie remake of George Orwells classic novel 1984. It portrays a horrendous future in which you're greatest enemy is those in charge a concept and life style a lot of people seem to be adapting to quite well, but not me oh no!

1. "I Did It Just the Same"   3:28
2. "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)"   3:58
3. "For the Love of Big Brother"   5:05
4. "Winston's Diary"   1:22
5. "Greetings from a Dead Man"   6:13
6. "Julia"   6:40
7. "Doubleplusgood"   4:40
8. "Ministry of Love"   3:47
9. "Room 101"

buddy holly - something special from buddy holly [192]

Although dead before i was born Buddy Holly still played a big part in my musical appreciation. I was a bit obsessed with the concept of music from beyond the grave which now sadly makes up most of what i listen to. Anyhow this album has a few tracks on it that are not on every Buddy Holly compilation!

1  Good Rockin' Tonight
2  Rip It Up
3  Blue Monday
4  Honky Tonk
5  Blue Suede Shoes

I See You Baby!

Went to the Doctors yesterday he had a student sit in on my appointment [at least I hope he was a student and not a rep for a Euthanasia clinic]. All is positive for me anyway and my Doc has me pencilled in for at least another 2 months Sick Leave/ Paid Holiday. I think I need to begin looking for an exit strategy now as I wouldn't want to end up like the Brits in Afghanistan [tits up in a ditch]. No that's not for me I've begun job hunting and am pondering going back to Uni to do an MA possibly in advanced work avoidance maybe take my knowledge on the road in a series of enlightening lectures. All bullshit aside I have got myself [with help from my job] into a rare old state and its going to take lots of AA [meetings, sponsor, programme and service] to get me thinking straight and I've begun [again] meditating daily. When the Head Gasket is blown meditation is the most practical tool in the armoury as when I can derail my perceived reality [my fears and insecurities] and get in the moment you quickly realise that the moment is all there is [past gone, future unwritten] and all is hunky dory. You can achieve this in 15mins or 15 secs [works just as well]. Though simple this is not easy as the ego don't want you to look as it don't want you to catch a glimpse of the reality that the job, status, gym, possessions, running around like a headless chicken and keeping up appearances all adds up to very little and you'd be happier and healthier just chillin' in the moment. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely delving into the bargain basement of enlightenment as if it's not simple, effective and fun i'm not doing it' Good example... my favourite ever bit of Spiritual Development came from one of the Barefoot Doctors early books and a very basic discipline called “Scoopin' The Loop” [please check this out]. It has many purposes to recharge the batteries and even better for when the partner is pecking a hole in your head and the kids are making you wish you had been born sterile just “Scoop The Loop” and this Psychic Attack will be vanquished [works a treat every time]!

aretha franklin - through the storm [320]

1989 release by the mighty voiced lady failed to sell despite a big hit being provided by her duet with Elton Prawn "Through the Storm". Even having James Brown on board could not stop the album being with drawn shortly after release. Personally i blame the inclusion of Kenny G for this!

1."Gimme Your Love"  - 5:18 with James Brown
2."Mercy"- 4:05
3."He's the Boy" (Aretha Franklin) - 4:05
4."It Isn't, It Wasn't, It Ain't Never Gonna Be" (duet with Whitney Houston)  - 5:37
5."Through the Storm" (duet with Elton John) - 4:20
6."Think (1989)" - 3:39
7."Come to Me" - 3:42
8."If Ever a Love There Was"- 4:30 with The Four Tops and Kenny G.

billy idol - billy idol [remastered] [192]

First solo release from the Generation X front man is a good reflection of what direction New Wave music was going in 1982. Only got proper recognition several years later when the song ."White Wedding" became a Global hit!

2."White Wedding" (Part 1) – 4:11

Free To Do Whatever The Tell Us We Can Do!

Watched a documentary last night called Thrive [got it from this URL Thrive (2011) DVDRip x264 SayFull.mkv] it covered a lot of issues from Global Control [new world order], supression of free energy sources, banking irregularities, ufo's, control of the media, food production,  crop circles to name but a few. Now I have no expectations whilst watching programmes like this and a lot of them I find so lightweight I just turn them off after a few minutes. This one I found very interesting and plausible and will follow up some of the knowledge gleaned from the show to check its authenticity. I'm convinced and have been since the early 80's that we are being herded into a corner by the powers that be [banks controlling the money and governments controlling the use of force]. The exact purpose of this remains unclear to me but the evidence of its existence is all around from things like homeland security, identity cards, cctv surveillance, ramping up of the Terrorist threat to facilitate more erosion of our civil liberties and my favourite the laughable rubbish churned out on news and current affairs programmes. If I lived in America I think I would join one of those survivalist communes but the best I can do around these parts is grow my own fruit and veg [learning how being the key thing] stocking up on enough basic foods to last for 2 months [quite cheap and easy to store] and important to me is to borrow nothing and to take out no loans or any type of credit. You may see this as further proof of mental instability on my behalf but in my defence I would like to point out that having witnessed 30 years of State Sponsored Terrorism by the British authorities in Northern Ireland or worse still the totally ignored Sri Lanka Massacre 2009 Killing of at least 40,000 civilians I'm rightly worried about the abuse of power......anyone fancy a few home grown truths give Thrive a watch!

reverend horton heat - holy roller [320]

Jim Heath described the bands  sound as "Country Fed Punkabilly". I describe it as Psychobilly as i could not cope with another genre being added to the list. What i hear is a mixture of country, punk, big band, swing, and rockabilly, all played loud and energetically with lyrics that are often very very funny...if your a twisted f**k like me!

1."Big Sky" – 3:07
2."Baddest of the Bad" – 2:27

impressions - never ending impressions [192]

Another much missed huge talent Curtis Mayfield [Superfly and all that] was the songwriter with the Impressions a band best known for their 1960s string of hits, many of which were heavily influenced by Gospel music and served as inspirational anthems for the Civil Rights Movement.

1."Sister Love"
2."Little Boy Blue"
3."Satin Doll"

slade - slade in flame [256]

Released in 1974 at the height of Glam Rock this is one of Slades better albums. Need to qualify that as i was never a big fan and they had massive hits with other albums i don't really have much insight into what was their best albums. What i like about this album is the more Ballady [not really a word is it?] tracks especially "How Does It Feel" a really good song!
1."How Does It Feel"
2."Them Kinda Monkeys Can't Swing"
3."So Far So Good"
4."Summer Song (Wishing You Were Here)"
5."O.K. Yesterday Was Yesterday"
6."Far Far Away"

Claiming The Moral Low Ground!

They had new cups up in Starbucks yesterday plain white with an embossed logo. I pinched 3 [Venti, not so Venti and Small] and they now live in my cupboard. I get like this when I feel hard done by in life don't know if its the on going saga at work or maybe the hassles on-line at the moment or perhaps I just feel lonely. Anyway the result is pretty predictable I start taking “Five Finger Discounts” everywhere I go a bit of Shop Lifting here, not paying fares on Trains and all sorts of lamentable behaviours ill befitting of a man with 26 years recovery [surely you mean not drinking and not recovery]. I'm not adverse to stealing I would recommend it to anyone in need as if it's fine for our leaders it should be OK for the downtrodden [rationalisation of the super size variety]. The problem for me is that these behaviours are coupled with me seemingly not caring if I get caught [chronic low self esteem] which poses at least one serious issue I would be appalled if caught [false pride.. what will people think of me]. So I'm none the wiser it's somewhere in between a cry for help and just being a thieving c**t the choice is yours. Antidote for today will be to go to an AA meeting and keep my hands in my pockets the rest of the time!

avengers - avengers [224]

Very much underestimated American Punk Band. This album also known as the pink album is the closest thing to a studio album the short lived band got round to producing and is made up of EP tracks and B sides and a few tracks produced by Sex Pistol Steve Jones. The Avengers opened for the Sex Pistols at their final infamous Winterland show!

1."We Are the One"
2."Car Crash"
3."I Believe in Me"
4."Open Your Eyes"
5."No Martyr"
6."Desperation"
7."Thin White Line""
8."Paint it Black"
9."The Amerikan in Me"
10."White Nigger"
11."Uh Oh"
12."Second to None"
13."Corpus Christie"
14."Fuck You" (live)

rocket from the crypt - RFTC [320]

Another band which failed to achieve in sales what they definately had in talent. The band was a bit strung out at times and this album was several years in the pipe lin and i suppose  marked the beginning of the end for them!

1."Eye on You"
2."Break it Up"
3."I Know"
4."Panic Scam"
5."Made for You"
6."Lipstick"
7."You Gotta Move"
8."Your Touch"

laurie anderson - big science [320]

1982 album which is best known for the 8-minute epic "O Superman". The album is minimalist and like a great deal of Laurie Anderson's work is based largely on spoken word. I don't know why i like it but i do it chills me right out!

1."From the Air" – 4:29
2."Big Science" – 6:14
3."Sweaters" – 2:18
4."Walking & Falling" – 2:10
5."Born, Never Asked" – 4:56
6."O Superman (For Massenet)" – 8:21

I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it!

Don't panic folks as those budding Capitalist's who run the Upload Facilities dash for cover [Fileserve, Filesonic, etc etc etc] and try and hide from the Man they aspire to be. Who would have thought they would be so spineless [me for one] they took all the money gladly and now pretend to be squeaky clean and shutting down accounts of the people who paid to use their wretched services [nice one]. Some are still showing backbone as far as i know Wupload, Rapidshare and Mediafire are still going strong. I like to see it all as another evolutionary step and look forward to the challange of finding ways to continue blogging!

The very sexy Clare Grogan still does it for me [Kristine Kochanski in Red Dwarf...i need to lie down after that flashback]. This is the bands final album from 1983. Its what I'm going to call Jangle Pop [i think i heard that somewhere] and very good in a light hearted sort of way!

It Puts The Lotion In The Basket!

One thing i have never understood about Serial Killers is how uptight they get at the suggestion that they have been eating their victims. They don't seem to mind owning up to biting, inserting, strangling or cutting but any mention of eating and they become strangely silent. Whats the point of this insight i hear you ask and to be honest I'm not sure myself other than to say that i survived an attack by a serial killer [killers] in 1979 and as far as i am aware at least 29 others were not so lucky during this series of horrific attacks [plenty of cutting and strangling not sure about the other elements].I really would have liked an explanation to what it was all about but both killers are now dead and permanently silent. Now you know one of my claims to fame an event which at the time made me feel that I was living a charmed life just by my very survival without any physical injury. Now I see the long shadow that was cast that day and remain as baffled by the event as ever and by the simple good fortune that a slight unconscious movement by myself [a matter of inches] was the difference between death and what we have now. A guy who's workshy, selfish, cynical, hurt, depressed but also honest, empathetic, loyal, humorous and now a blogger. Guess I would love to blame a lot of stuff on a couple of wankers who blighted lives but doubt very much that the ex wife would buy it and neither do I really as all I learned that day is always face who ever you are talking to at least until they are out of sight, never turn away as that's their cue to attack and for f**ks sake don't take yourself so seriously!

rick springfield - working class dog [320]

Huge selling album from 1981 which i always liked especially for the single Jessie's Girl. I learned today courtesy of Wiki that he is in fact Australian and not American as i always thought...so there you go!

Man Overboard!

Really enjoying my 9 week rest from work. I've been hitting 4-5 AA meetings a week, reading some great books I'm halfway through Irvine Welsh's book “If You Liked School You'll Love Work” [great title].Walked about 7 miles yesterday afternoon just for the hell of it. Popped into a couple of Internet cafes [high speed] downloaded heaps of films and music to blog and for myself. Also been getting tickets to a few plays and have started building a bit of an active social life. Next step will be to begin stalking some lucky lady I did get a couple of nice smiles from a woman Wednesday night named Maria I never seen her before which is promising. All in all I ain't got nothin' to complain about. I feel as free from responsibility as an Italian Cruise Ship Captain!

Goodbye Megaupload old friend you supplied me with lots of Films and good music over the years. Help I Needed Yesterday But Hoped It Wouldn't Come Until Tomorrow!

It's my AA birthday today just like the Queen I now have two each year. Anyone who reads this stuff that I write well knows that I'm very opinionated on many subjects like Ireland, Socialism, Football and much much more. All pales into insignificance when it comes to my love for Alcoholics Anonymous which has given me 26 years of recovery. Believe me that AA is not about drinking it's about living free from the merciless obsession with alcohol. My 3 main things in life back in the day where drinking, getting over drinking and waiting to drink that believe it or not was a full time job with no rest or mercy. So I'm free [happy and joyous at times] and my primary purpose is to stay free and help others to achieve that freedom.

It Is Better To Die On Your Feet Than Live On Your Knees!

Surely it can't just be me who watches the news as working class people are turfed out of their jobs and frequently homes. As they systematically have their rights removed whilst those in charge continue to prosper at their expense. Worst of all barely a murmur from the masses in America, UK [more interested in the results of x factor than their own well being] or anywhere outside of Greece [riot on lads]. I'm from Belfast I can see the disillusioned looks among the proud Republican People who like me must be thinking is this really the outcome of 30 years of armed struggle, a couple of  new Malls and Hotels we can't afford to go to and the outside chance of a mortgage [on a house which the “Man” can repossess to make more money for himself], and not a sniff of a descent  job. Unlike most peoples we have tasted freedom [and can't get over the feeling] and I suspect brave men and women will soon be resisting this state of affairs. At the forefront will be the visionary, a Warrior/Poet like Bobby Sands or further back in time the man who left us these final words.

Where all your rights become only an accumulated wrong; where men must beg with bated breath for leave to subsist in their own land, to think their own thoughts, to sing their own songs, to garner the fruits of their own labours.... then surely it is a braver, a saner and truer thing, to be a rebel in act and deed against such circumstances as these than tamely to accept it as the natural lot of men”.

Sir Roger Casement

As powerful now as it was in 1916 orated from the dock before his execution for treason. All I'm saying is don't give up without a fight!

david axelrod - auction [320]
